Watch as Hunter, crack shot from Mississippi, shoots a watermelon off my head with a .50 caliber sniper rifle from 200 some yards away! Either we’re idiots, or we have total confidence in a stranger’s shooting ability!

This was on our stop in Mississipi. Hunter sent us an awesome video showing off his massive property, and dozens of sweet toys; dirt bikes, 4 wheelers, horses, rifles, watch towers, lakes, and the mother of them all, a .50 cal.
His family was totally great letting us park our RV at their place. We spent the first day getting a tour of the property. Brandon and I stood in the back of the 4 wheel mule, a ride we can only describe as Indiana Jones at Disney land, but 10x better, and with banana snakes.
We had some awesome ideas for a number of videos, but with not too many people in the area, and after seeing Hunter’s incredible shooting ability, we went with this life threatening trick. Seriously, the dude places 4 shots within a dime at 100 yards. Its unreal. I knew he was beyond even my best potential when he explained that he missed the 5th shot (went on the outside edge of the dime) because his heart beat was off.
Wow! That was crazy! Speaking of heart beat being off, I bet your hands were trembling for a few hours after that one Freddiew. Nice shot Hunter! Silly question, but are you as good at shooting in video games as you are at sniping in real life?
Watch, he’ll show up at your door with that 50. cal. saying, “This good enough for ya…”
Okay, first off, Awesome. Very short clip, but still awesome.
However…
The helmet and shirt is clean, before the explosion and after they are still clean… so its faked. How? Wooden pole and green screen? It feels like theres a gap between freddie’s head and the melon on the ‘long-shots’. Plus, theres a big dot on the helmet, on only one side. Motion tracking in postproduction maybe for closeup explosion?
Also, no matter what kind of explosion, gunpowder, C4 or a melon exploding from gunfire, it doesn’t just go up and out… and then down. It goes downwards as well. What im saying its a continuity mistake. You should have sprayed melon juice on the helmet and shirt to remove the mistake of ‘no juice-coverage’…
Just saying, cause i noticed it… but its unbelievable how good you guys make these videos. Hope you one day do a european tour, even though its highly unlikely. i mean, Europe’s got some really wondrous sites… WW2 sites… lots and lots of WW2 sites im a war’fan’ sort of… how about a swim on D-day at normandy, not the best of ideas i think
Im rambling right now. So, keep up the shooting, of guns and videos that is, and remember. Don’t shoot your allies… it hurts… real bad. WW2 G.I’s seemed to do that a lot, but hey, live and let live i say…
you’ve never seen a 50 cal fired before have you. the shockwave from the bullet alone can kill a guy. The reason the melon doesn’t get on freddy is because the bullet hit the melon, imparting it’s force into the melon. Most of it would’ve gone behind him, several yards behind him. go look at other videos of 50 cals being shot, the spot where they hit usually goes away.
if the shockwave can kill you then why didn’t freddie die…
Because the bullet slowed down, and he was not right at the end of the gun, where I’m assuming the shockwave would be strongest.
and that dot on the helmet I believe is the razor logo
Because the shockwave is about a foot diameter, since the bullet hit near the top of the watermelon, it didn’t affect freddie more than a really really loud noise. His ears probably rung for a little bit.
No, not really, sweden doesn’t really allow anyone to buy anything outside of huntingrifles, and the bullets alone are a dollar a piece or even more.
I must confess i didn’t do enough research before opening my big mouth and must apologizes for that…
There is a lot of videos that prove the use in antimaterial-usage of the 50.cal, but antipersonel is, if im not wrong, illegal even for the military in most country’s.
I have a few friends who are in the Nordic battle group, who complained about how snipers were given direct orders to never use against living people, even if they were to end up in a hostile situation… But really, you got a gun, and someone shooting at you, you will use it…
But its true the shockwave would be deadly, but the wierd thing is, mythbusters shot a 50 cal. sniper-rifle between two tables of sensitive glas and windows, and nothing broke out of the soundwave or shockwave at about 5 inches or less, only when the bullet nudged the frames of the windows… check it up if you don’t believe me…
The round in the BMG was used though, ive reviewed the footage that much… but there might still be a lot ive not noticed yet…
I just rechecked the video, season 7 episode 10. They used glass ranging from windows to light-bulbs, at 2 inches from center, nothing happened… it didn’t even move the crystal-glasses… so im a bit skeptical to death by shock-wave right now…
Well, i’ve known several people who have shot .50 cals, or know people who have them. A couple will go hunting with them (overkill) and occasionally kill two deer with one shot. One with the bullet, and the second usually has no wounds on it. They might be using non-standard rounds or just a really rare occasion.
LOL news flash, a little bit of the juice did get on him when we set the charge off, you just can’t see it in the video. If you was there with us you would have seen it for yourself. As for shooting watermelons with rifles, the same effect happens, the juice does not get on the shirt, the pressure from the bullet pushes the contents of the watermellon up and outwards leaving everything underneath for the mostpart clean.

In My Opinion:
The gun is real, so is the shell…but the cartridge fired was a blank…freddie’s hat has a button by his ear that he presses when he hears the gun fire the blank….the water mellon is packed with some small explosive which …is activated by the switch…They must have played a lot to get the quantity right, before Freddie wears it…none the less…Freddie is a brave man…..Grrrrrrrrr
Sorry but no. A blank round will not cause a rifle that weighs what those .50s do to recoil like that. It may be a composite image but the rifle is firing a live round for sure.
Ahha….but I still think that my explanation (apart from the blank) was the closest…..

Honestly doesn’t look faked to me. Then again these guys do great effects. The only inconsistency I see is the shirt not getting messy, but then again if you pause at the right frame you can see the majority of the spray go backwards. what goes forward is just the melon breaking up and looks fine to me. The helmet kicks back at the proper timing and it seems to move on his head correctly as well.
Regardless of whether it is fake or not, good work. The fact that people like us can’t distinguish the difference means it’s good

Judging by andrepcg’s picture, shooting the melon, at least, isn’t faked, the addition of Freddie could be though, but only Freddie and the crew knows.

I like how Freddie and his friends actually go out and interact with their fans. It’s awesome.
Very believeable. you must remember that a .50 cal (depending on the grain) hits with about 15,000 ft lbs of energy…in that case that watermelon is friggen wrecked

Would I be correct in saying the bullet looks shorter because of Einstein’s theory which states that objects are shorter the faster they go from 3 person perspective?

No. The bullet doesn’t fly *nearly* fast enough to cause noticeable length contraction.
also, the thing that you shoot is the front part, the projectile. the rest is just a “case” for the gunpowder
From the side perspective in the still image the projectile appears slightly longer if anything and blurred because the frame rate and shutter speed are not sufficient to “stop” something traveling at over 2000 feet per second.
Is that a TAc-50?
